- Although often mistaken for a public fish hatchery, the Center's
aquaculture facility only raises fish for use in research. Historically,
fish raised in these tanks have been needed to test medicinal
drugs regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Public
aquaculture relies on medicinal drugs to treat fish that become
diseased. Supplied with a newly stocked medicine chest, public
aquaculture facilities across the country will be able to more
efficiently produce the many species required to support recreational
fishing.
