Trend estimation methods for LTRMP water data

Gray, B. 2014. Trend estimation methods for LTRMP water data. Upper Mississippi River Restoration Long Term Resource Monitoring Program Completion Report 2014E1 submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island, Illinois. 8 pp.

Abstract

Trend estimation is one of the primary goals of the Long Term Resource Monitoring Program (LTRMP) element of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Upper Mississippi River Restoration-Environmental Management Program. While the LTRMP has been collecting data suitable for long‐term trend estimation since 1993, the LTRMP has not routinely reported such trend estimates. This effort evaluates potential methods of estimating multi‐year temporal trends (“trends”) in annual means for one LTRMP component, the LTRMP water quality component. Trend estimation methods that satisfy not only the technical concerns but which also are not demanding computationally and analytically are needed by the UMRR partnership.
