Impacts of the 1993 flood on the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers:
Sampling Purpose: In 1993-1994, the Illinois State Water Survey and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (ILEPA) conducted sediment and water sampling in order to determine changes in water quality of the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River as a result of the 1993 flood. Sediment grab samples were collected from the Illinois River (Alton Pool) and the Upper Mississippi River (Pools 14, 20, 26, and open river). Sieved samples were analyzed for volatile matter, total nitrogen, metals, fungicides, polychlorinated biphenyls, and organochlorines.
