Sampling Purpose: This multi-agency study was designed to investigate the vertical distribution of sediment contaminants in Pool 2 and 4 (Lake Pepin) of the Upper Mississippi River after the 1993 flood. More specifically, to examine the stratigraphy of contaminants and chronology of pollution downstream of the Twin Cities metropolitan area through detailed analysis of sediment cores. The sediment samples were analyzed for carbon content (organic, carbonate, and total) and metals.
