Study site locations: Rhode Island- Effects of dioxins along the Woonasquatucket River

Hatching success of tree swallows was significantly reduced a locations with high dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD) contamination. The contamination at this site is some of the highest ever reported in bird eggs anywhere in the world.  Much of the reduced hatching was the result of total clutch failure.
