Education:
1987 B.S., Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences, South Dakota State University

Primary Responsibilities/Activities:
As a member of the Resource Mapping Spatial Analysis Team (RMSAT), I work primarily on vegetation mapping projects associated with the National Park Service (NPS) Vegetation Inventory Program (VIP), a high-priority effort within the NPS Inventory & Monitoring Program. The USGS Vegetation Characterization Program hosts the suite of products for the NPS VIP.

I perform photointerpretation mapping of plant communities and land cover using nationally standardized classification systems, most commonly the National Vegetation Classification Standard. I am proficient in mapping using manual methods, involving mirror stereoscopes over light tables, and digital methods, involving onscreen stereo viewing of digital imagery via stereo analyst in the ArcGIS platform. In addition, I perform extensive field reconnaissance in support of map classification development and photointerpretation mapping. I collaborate with many ecologists, classifiers, and botanists to promote proper understanding and use of the vegetation classification.

I also produce final products for mapping projects including geodatabase sets, metadata, project reports, graphic files, and map compositions. I participate in project scoping meetings to get projects up and running as well as present methods, results, and products at project close-out meetings.
