EMTC 93-P004R. 126 pp. + Appendixes A-D with magnetic tape ABSTRACT This training manual is intended to provide the natural resources manager or researcher using geographic information systems (GIS) data with the means to (1) understand the strengths and limitations of GIS, (2) access and query GIS data in ARC/INFO and ArcView, and (3) perform simple analyses of GIS data using ARC/INFO. Text discussions, hands-on training sessions, and problem-solving exercises will be covered in the manual. It is assumed that the user has general UNIX and OpenWindows (the UNIX graphic user interface) experience and little or no GIS or cartographic knowledge. There will a brief introduction to UNIX; more information is available in the on-line tutorials on most workstations.
